YouTube Marketing 101 (Part 1)
YouTube is a phenomenon which continues to grow rapidly. If you’re not utilizing it in your online marketing mix, it’s high time you considered it. In this two part 101 on YouTube Marketing, we’ll give you the basics for developing an effective YouTube presence.
The most recent statistics on online video and YouTube are pretty mind-blowing: In the U.S, Nielsen reported 15 billion videos were streamed in the most recently recorded month (May 2011). While traditional TV viewing was up only 0.2% over last year, Internet video viewing was up 35% and mobile video viewing went up 20%.
Something to consider before you think about plunging a bunch of marketing dollars into YouTube though is another statistic: 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube… every minute. In the time it’ll take you to read this post, about two weeks of fresh content will be posted. So needless to say, there’s a lot of competition to get views. Here are some tips for maximising your youtube marketing results..
The importance of compelling content
Realistically, most of us will never create a video that goes viral. The thing is though – even if you did create a viral sensation, could you handle 3 million new customers?
Rather than filming your cat 24/7 and hoping it does something funny, you’re better off focussing on creating content that addresses your audience’s needs. Aim to create videos that are helpful, valuable and compelling to your prospects and clients.
Your content could include anything from how to’s, answers to your most frequently asked questions, interviews with industry experts or slideshows.
Make sure people can find your videos
To make sure your video masterpieces are findable, there’s 3 areas you need to focus on:
The Title: Make sure your targeted keywords are in the first few words of your title.
Description: Firstly, include a full url at the start of your description – this creates another backlink for your site, and also makes it easy for people to navigate to it. Secondly, don’t be lazy with the description. The more detail you include the easier it’ll be for people to find it, and the more searches you’ll appear in.
Tags: Be certain to include all your targeted keywords in the tags
These tips provide a good basis for you to commence your YouTube marketing campaign. Work on implementing these in the next few weeks, and you’ll be all set for part two where we’ll provide insights on methods for increasing views for your YouTube videos.
